I am no magician in the kitchen so as with other recipes I post, this is an easy one. But it still generates a lot of excitement with My Girls & a nice snack for me ;) Again, it's about the experience. You don't have to love Almond Butter, though you might. Your kids want to spend time with you...doing things & making memories. Your kids can only do something for the first time once. Make that first time with you & it will be a memory that lives with them their entire life.

Almond Butter also presents a good opportunity to up your, as well as your children's DIY game. Not to mention save some money with is always welcome for a single parent. I've bought jars of almond butter at the store fore $8 or $9. DIY'ing it will cost you just a couple bucks. The only required ingredient is raw almonds. We make our almond butter with raw honey or maple syrup but those ingredients are optional.

What Is Almond Butter?

Almond butter has a consistency similar to peanut butter but made with almonds. It's great on toast or to spread on vegetables. In other words, a great health snack for your you & your kids.

How To Make Almond Butter?

You'll need a high powered blender or food processor & a cookie sheet for this recipe. I have some different options below in the Suggested Equipment section of this blog.

Ingredients

  • 16 Ounces of raw almonds. You can save a little time if you purchase almonds that have already been roasted but there are instructions below for roasting as well.

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt (optional).

  • 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.

Instructions

  1. If you bought roasted almonds then skip to step 6.

  2. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Spread the almonds out on a cookie pan.

  4. In the pre-heated oven, roast the almonds until fragrant (7 to 10 minutes).

  5. Take the almonds out of the oven & let them cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

  6. Once the almonds have cooled, put all of them into the blender or food processor.

  7. Turn the blender onto the Mix or Puree setting.

  8. Be patient! First the almonds will become Flour-like. Be patient, it will turn into a paste. It usually takes 7 to 10 minutes in my Hamilton Beach Food Processor.

  9. As the Almonds turn into paste, it will begin to stick to the sides of the blender or food processor. Stop the processing occasionally & use a spatula to scrape down the sides as necessary. You'll probably need to do this 3 or 4 times.

  10. Once the almonds have become paste, add the salt (optional) & honey (optional) & blend for 1 more minute.

  11. Scoop your creation into a plastic container or mason jars to keep it fresh.
